Morning everybody, John Wolf Grass Roots professional landscaping. Today we’re gonna talk about how to keep you and your family safe from ticks were gonna talk about the first part is knowing where the ticks live they live in the woods they live in leaf litter around stonewalls underground cover. 70% of ticks are found 9 feet of the wooded edge they dry up in the sun and are not usually found in sunny areas of the lawn. We want to talk about creating a tick free zone. A tick free zone starts with letting the sun shine in. Sheds, picnic tables, children’s swing sets should be in the sun away from woods. You want to trim tree branches, clear brush, weeds and leaf liter away from walkways and near wooded and shady areas. Want to restrict ground cover and instead use woodchips and gravel in shady areas. You want to keep your grass short. You want to have a zone edge. The zone edge should be where ticks are mostly found in transition areas . And the zone edge allows the tick not to migrate from the wooded area into your lawn and your family area. So you want thin tree branches out clear brush, vines, and leaf liter. You want to keep weeds cut as short as possible and have a well manicured border. The border should be about 3′ wide. Should be woodchips or gravel. You’ll also make it so it’s a visible reminder of a tick free zone. So that’s it for this week go out and enjoy your property and be safe. Thanks a lot John Wolf Grass Roots professional landscaping.
